Corinna Hörmann (former Kröhn) is an Austrian researcher in Computer Science education, known for her work on digital education, gender-sensitive didactics, and teacher education. She is affiliated with Johannes Kepler University Linz, where she is involved in teaching, curriculum development, and outreach.[1]. In 2025, she received the Kepler Award for Science Communication (Kepler Award für Wissenschaftsvermittlung) for her efforts to engage the public with Computer Science through inclusive and innovative formats[2].

Career and Research

[edit]

Hörmann's academic focus lies in the implementation and evaluation of digital education initiatives in schools, with particular emphasis on teacher training, curriculum development, and the long-term impact of digital literacy programs such as Digitale Grundbildung in Austria[3]. Her work bridges theory and practice through mixed-methods approaches, often in direct collaboration with schools and educational institutions[4].

She has been involved in national education reform, including contributions to the curriculum for Computer Science in Austrian secondary schools (AHS). As a representative of Computer Science didactics in the ÖGFD (Österreichische Gesellschaft für Fachdidaktik)[5] [6], she contributes to shaping the academic discourse on Computer Science education in Austria.

Outreach and Science Communication

[edit]

Hörmann is an advocate for gender equity in STEM and has led and co-developed projects such as Let IT Dance[7] and Girls* Only[8], which use creative and embodied learning approaches to engage girls in Computer Science topics. She is also a founding contributor to the JKU COOL Lab, an educational outreach space that brings Computer Science to schools and the public through workshops[9].

She regularly contributes to national media on topics related to digital education and gender in STEM and has published in outlets such as Der Standard[10] and the OCG Journal[11] [12]. She also collaborates with the Kinderuni OÖ to foster early engagement with digital and computational thinking[13]
