Roberval Conte Lopes Lima (born May 14, 1947, in São Paulo), commonly known as Conte Lopes, is a retired military police officer, radio host, lawyer, writer, and Brazilian politician affiliated with the Liberal Party (PL). He is known for being part of the so-called "pro-gun caucus".[1][2]
Biography

[edit]Roberval joined the Military Police of São Paulo State (PMESP) in 1967, when it was still known as the "Força Pública do Estado de São Paulo", starting as a soldier. Soon after, he was promoted to corporal through an internal examination.
In 1970, he entered the officer training course and graduated as a second lieutenant, joining the elite unit ROTA (Rondas Ostensivas Tobias de Aguiar). In 1977, he was promoted for bravery to the rank of first lieutenant, following high-risk operations, including the confrontation that resulted in the death of a drug trafficker nicknamed "Carioquinha", who was wanted for the murder of a civil police officer on May 4 of that year.[3]
Political career
[edit]Conte Lopes was elected state deputy for São Paulo several times, becoming one of the most prominent figures of the "law and order" agenda in Brazilian politics. He has defended hardline public security policies and has been associated with controversial statements in favor of tough policing.[1]
