Community First Credit Union of Florida is a state-chartered credit union based in Jacksonville, Florida. As of 2024, it reports more than $2.8 billion in assets and serves over 175,000 members.[1]
History
[edit]The credit union was established in 1935 as Duval County Teachers Credit Union. It changed its name to Educational Community Credit Union in 1980 and adopted its current name, Community First Credit Union, in 2005.[1]
In 2005, it merged with St. Johns County Teachers Credit Union and 8 Flags Federal Credit Union.[2]
Expansion
[edit]In December 2024, Credit Union Times reported that Community First Credit Union continued expanding across Northeast Florida, acquiring property in Nassau and Clay counties to build new branches as part of its multiyear growth strategy.[3]
That same month, the Jacksonville Daily Record reported that Community First purchased a 1.3-acre commercial lot in Green Cove Springs for $1.35 million. The site is planned to house a 3,100-square-foot branch with a drive-thru, designed by Group 4 Design.[4]
In June 2025, News4Jax featured the credit union’s renovation of the former Edgewood Bakery building in Jacksonville’s Murray Hill neighborhood. The planned branch will include a front-lawn food feature, a community room, and preserved architectural elements from the original bakery. The project is expected to open in 2026.[5]
Leadership
[edit]In 2024, Sam Inman was named president and CEO, succeeding longtime leader John Hirabayashi, who served as chief executive for 28 years.[6]
Oversight
[edit]Community First is regulated by the Florida Office of Financial Regulation and insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA).
