Draft:Coelurosaurichnus Tatricus (Ichnotaxon)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ichnotaxon Coelurosaurichnus Tatricus was first described in 1975 after a discovery of fossilized footprints of a small theropod from the Triassic (Circa 200MYA). The tracks were found in Tichá Dolina in the High Tatras of Slovakia (Formally: Slovak Republic) It was probably a slim, 2 metre long and 1.5 - 2 meter tall carnivorous dinosaur and given the size estimate of such a "small" theropod it is likely that it was a fast runner.

It lived in an enviroment with swamps, lakes etc. which is also the reason why no fossilized bones were found: the mud damaged them too much. It possibly lived near the coast, as back then then, the Tatras were an island probably located in somewhere today’s Switzerland. The theropod was also likely feathered, and probably hunted small lizards, amphibians, possibly fish (?) and other dinosaurs (NOTE: No fossil evidence of dinosaurs in Slovakia except C. Tatricus are known, but likely were there.)

The footprint

The most prominent feature of this dinosaur was that it lived on a very small island meaning this size could make it the apex predator, but we are not sure about this very controversial statement.[1] Note that it could be Lilientsternus, as ichnotaxons are rarely separate genuses or species[1]
