Submission declined on 19 June 2025 by Cabrils (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.

Comment: Well done on creating the draft, and it may potentially meet the relevant requirements (including WP:GNG, WP:ANYBIO) but presently it is not clear that it does. As you may know, Wikipedia's basic requirement for entry is that the subject is notable. Essentially subjects are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject. To properly create such a draft page, please see the articles ‘Your First Article’, ‘Referencing for Beginners’ and ‘Easier Referencing for Beginners’. The draft does not contain a lead section, which is required: for what is the subject notable? Please note that many of the references are not formatted correctly (see Introduction to referencing with VisualEditor and Wikipedia’s Manual of Style for help). Also, if you have any connection to the subject, including being the subject (see WP:AUTOBIO) or being paid, you have a conflict of interest that you must declare on your Talk page (to see instructions on how to do this please click the link). Please familiarise yourself with these pages before amending the draft. If you feel you can meet these requirements, then please make the necessary amendments before resubmitting the page. It would help our volunteer reviewers by identifying, on the draft's talk page, the WP:THREE best sources that establish notability of the subject. It would also be helpful if you could please identify with specificity, exactly which criteria you believe the page meets (eg "I think the page now meets WP:ANYBIO criteria #3, because XXXXX"). Once you have implemented these suggestions, you may also wish to leave a note for me on my talk page and I would be happy to reassess. Cabrils (talk) 07:33, 19 June 2025 (UTC)
Comment: In accordance with Wikipedia's Conflict of interest policy, I disclose that I have a conflict of interest regarding the subject of this article. CEditor2025 (talk) 09:15, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
Claire Parkinson is a British-Australian executive, author, and former prison governor. She is best known for her memoir SHiTTY GRiT, which chronicles her journey from homelessness and frontline prison work in the UK to executive roles in government and mining, including at OZ Minerals and BHP. Her story has been featured in UK and Australian media and on BBC Radio.
Early life
[edit]Parkinson grew up in Haverhill, Suffolk. At age 16, she became homeless and pregnant, circumstances she would later describe in her memoir.[1] Despite this, she entered the UK prison service in her 20s, with her first role being the personal officer for Moors murderer Myra Hindley at HM Prison Highpoint.[1]
Prison and public sector career
[edit]Parkinson rose rapidly through the UK prison ranks, becoming a prison governor in her early 30s and later Head of Operations for London Prisons and Probation. In this role, she oversaw counter-terrorism efforts, approximately 9,000 staff and 33,000 prisoners.[1][2] She was also appointed as the UK government's Controller at HM Prison Rye Hill.[2]
In late 2011, she was recruited to Australia to take over as General Manager of Mobilong Prison in South Australia.[1] She was later appointed as the Head of Justice Sector Reform for the state, leading cross-agency criminal justice reform efforts.[2]
Parkinson Report
[edit]In 2020, Parkinson authored a governance review at Adelaide's Women's and Children's Hospital. As part of this report, she recommended the abolition of gendered titles for surgeons, advocating for the use of the title Dr for all.[3][4] The proposal was adopted by the hospital and later by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.[5] The policy change gained international attention, with calls for similar reforms in the United Kingdom.[4] Parkinson's role in this cultural change was acknowledged by senior medical professionals.[4]
Corporate career
[edit]In 2015, Parkinson joined OZ Minerals as Head of Innovation and was later appointed Integration Executive, responsible for enterprise-wide transformation.[6] Following BHP's acquisition of OZ Minerals for A$9.6 billion in 2023, she became Vice President, Integration Performance at BHP.[7]
The Australian Financial Review named Parkinson among the first senior executives from OZ Minerals to join BHP, noting that she would support the cultural integration of the two companies.[7]
Author and public speaker
[edit]In 2025, Parkinson published her memoir, SHiTTY GRiT, which became a number one bestseller on Amazon in Australia, the UK, and top new release in the United States.[1] The book recounts her journey from homelessness to leadership across prisons, government, and mining. It received media coverage in outlets such as Suffolk News[1] and ABC Radio.[3]
Parkinson is a keynote speaker represented by Saxton Speakers Bureau.[2] Her engagements include the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy's International Women's Day event (2024),[8] the Australian Women's Leadership Symposium (2021),[9] and the WA Mining Club.
