'''Chithkale''' ಚಿತ್ಕಳೆ (c. 1130–1160) is a rare female name in Kannada which means brightness in heart, mind or spirit. Chithkale or Chith meaning “mind” and Kale meaning “brightness” has its origin in halegannada or old Kannada. It also has its references to Akka Mahadevi, the great saint belonging to Lingayatism and a female scholar and poet of 12^th century.

The name has description in many Vachanas and Sharana Sahitya. One of the book by Dr Shashikanth called "ಕಲ್ಯಾಣದ ಚಿತ್ಕಳೆ ^[1]ಅಕ್ಕ ಮಹಾದೇವಿ ಕದಳಿ ಕರ್ಪುರದತ್ತ" also speaks about the meaning. There was another book by Mate Mahadevi Chinmoladriya Chithkale which goes on with the saint's preaching. Some more information pertaining the meaning of the word can be found in articles related to practices of Lingayat religion, ಲಿಂಗದೀಕ್ಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾದ ಒಂದು ಅಂಗವೆಂದರೆ ಹಸ್ತಮಸ್ತಕ ಸಂಯೋಗ, ಇದರ ಹಿಂದಿನ ತತ್ವ ಹೀಗಿದೆ: ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ಮಾನವನಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿವಕಳೆ (ಚಿತ್ಕಳೆ) ^[2]
