Chime Dolkar Sherpa(Tibetan: འཆི་མེད་སྒྲོལ་དཀར།) is a student leader and community advocate currently studying abroad. Chime Dolkar Sherpa is recognized for her civic involvement, especially during her time in the United States.
Early Life and Background
Chime Dolkar Sherpa was born and raised in Nepal, where she grew up in a Himalayan Buddhist community. Her upbringing was influenced by both Nepali and Tibetan cultures, and she became fluent in Nepali, Tibetan, Hindi, and English. From a young age, she was involved in social initiatives, including volunteering at cancer screening camps and health outreach programs across rural regions of Nepal.
Her experiences working directly with underserved populations inspired a long-term interest in public health, mental well-being, and social justice. These efforts helped her gain a scholarship to pursue higher education abroad.
Education
Chime received a scholarship to study in the United States and enrolled at LaGuardia Community College in New York, part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system. There, she pursued a degree in psychology, focusing on the intersections between mental health, trauma, and community healing, particularly within immigrant and minority populations.
Her academic interests extend to positive psychology, cognitive therapy, and mindfulness-based interventions, drawing influence from her Buddhist background.
College Leadership and Civic Engagement
Enrolled in 2023, Chime quickly emerged as an engaged campus leader. She was elected Treasurer of the Student Government Association, representing her peers in organizing events and managing student funds. A polyglot comfortable in Nepali, Tibetan, Hindi, and English, she has been lauded for bridging diverse cultural communities on campus.
Community and Cultural Impact
Chime draws on her bicultural background—growing up in Nepal with Tibetan heritage—to foster inclusive dialogue among international students. Her platform emphasizes mental health awareness, cultural exchange, and community building. She also volunteers with NGOs focused on refugee and immigrant support, sharing insights from her family’s own experiences in asylum and cultural adaptation .
Future Aspirations With plans to pursue a doctorate in positive or cognitive psychology, Chime aims to integrate Buddhist mindfulness traditions into mental health interventions.
