Draft:Charlie Gray

  • Comment: May be notable, but needs more references giving significant coverage in reliable independent secondary sources. Currently, the draft is reliant upon just two sources - an interview (note WP:IV: "The general rule is that any statements made by interviewees about themselves, their activities, or anything they are connected to is considered to have come from a primary source") and a gallery that hosted an exhibition (therefore not independent). Charlie Gray is a British photographer and director based in London.

Early life

[edit]

Gray’s career began at university, where he discovered photography under the guidance of photographic book publisher Stuart Smith. He developed a strong sense of narrative through documentary photography, citing Don McCullin and Martin Parr as major influences.[1]

Influenced by his father's record store, Andy's Records, Charlie Gray developed an early interest in visual storytelling. His mother, a vintage fashion dealer, also contributed to his appreciation for craftsmanship and aesthetics.[1]

Career

[edit]

Gray’s career began with a focus on behind-the-scenes and portrait photography, primarily in the entertainment industry. He has worked with major publications including Vanity Fair, Vogue, and Esquire. His career gained significant momentum in 2008 when BAFTA commissioned him to document their awards, leading to international work with movie studios and theatre productions.[1]

Exhibitions

[edit]

In September 2023, Gray opened a solo exhibition titled Performance at Leica Gallery in London. The exhibition featured twelve portraits of actors, artists, and musicians, including images of Robert De Niro, Ronnie Wood, and Monica Bellucci.[2]
