CGC University, Mohali is a private university located in Jhanjeri, Mohali district, Punjab, India. The institution was granted university status in July 2025 by the Punjab Government under the CGC University, Mohali Act, 2025.[1]
History
[edit]CGC Jhanjeri was established in 2012 as an affiliated college of I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University, offering programs in engineering and management. It was approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
In July 2025, the Punjab Legislative Assembly passed the CGC University, Mohali Bill, 2025, upgrading CGC Jhanjeri into a private university. The bill was part of a broader higher education initiative that also elevated Rayat Bahra Professional University, Hoshiarpur.[1][2]
Campus
[edit]The university campus is located near Chandigarh in Jhanjeri village, Mohali district. It includes academic buildings, libraries, laboratories, hostels, and recreational facilities.
Academics
[edit]CGC University offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in engineering, management, law, computer applications, health sciences, and commerce. Its programs are regulated by bodies such as the UGC, AICTE, BCI, and PCI.
Accreditation and rankings
[edit]Prior to becoming a university, CGC Jhanjeri was accredited with an A+ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), with a CGPA of 3.46 on a 4-point scale, among the highest in Punjab.[3]
According to the NIRF 2024 rankings released by the Ministry of Education, the institution was placed in the 101–125 band for management and 201–300 for engineering.[4]
Research and innovation
[edit]CGC Jhanjeri was ranked sixth in India for patent filings in early 2025. It was awarded the QS I-GAUGE Platinum Rating across all assessment parameters.[5]
The university has implemented initiatives such as the AICTE IDEA Lab, a 2.25 MLD sewage treatment plant, and a mentor–mentee program for student development.[5]
Recognition
[edit]In January 2025, CGC Jhanjeri was conferred with the Quality Education Award by Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains for its contributions to technical and management education.[6]
