The British Horse Council (or BHC) was created in 2018 as a Community Interest Company or CIC.[1] It replaced the British Horse Industry Confederation and the Equine Sector Council for Health & Welfare. The Council was created to represent all parts of the equine industry and where there is consensus, to speak with Government and similar bodies.
General Election manifestoes
[edit]In 2019, the BHC issued a manifesto calling for Government support for an industry worth £8 billion to the UK economy.[2]
In 2024, the BHC put out a manifesto for the General Election, describing the horse industry in terms of its size, breadth, value and profile. The manifesto described how the Government could help the £9 billion industry to flourish.[3][4]
Consultation
[edit]In 2022, the British Horse Council helped the Defra collect views on the future of horse passports.[5] In 2024, the council collected views on the importation of horses from the EU.[6]
