The Boissay family (French pronunciation: [bwasɛ]) is a French noble family which has its origin in the French village of Boissay, in Normandy.[1] It has surviving members in France, Britain, the Netherlands, and South Africa.[2] The historical seat of the house is the now-ruined castle (château) of Saint-Germain-sous-Cailly.[3]
Name
[edit]The name for the Boissay family clearly derives from the name of its place of origin, the French village of Boissay. However, the Boissay name was not continuously used by the members of the family that migrated to England, and instead de Boys and eventually the English translation Wood was used.
