Bluey: The Movie[1][2][3] is an upcoming animated film written and directed by Joe Brumm, based on the animated children's television series Bluey (2018–present).[4] It is produced by Ludo Studio and BBC Studios, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The film will "continue the adventures" of the main characters of Bluey with the same voice actors.[5]
Bluey: The Movie will be released in theaters by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures in 2027.
Voice cast
[edit]- David McCormack as Bandit Heeler[6]
- Melanie Zanetti as Chilli Heeler[6]
As with the television series, the child actors are kept anonymous to protect their privacy.[5][6]
Production
[edit]Writer and director Joe Brumm told the press he had enjoyed the experience of working on the Bluey long-form episode titled "The Sign" in series 3 and thought that making a feature-length film would be the natural next step.[7] Ahead of the release of that episode in April 2024, producer Sam Moor stated that it was rejected rumours the show was ending while executive producer Daley Pearson expressed interest in creating a feature film based on the series.[8]
In December 2024, BBC Studios and The Walt Disney Company announced that a Bluey film was under development. Brumm was set to write and direct after previously working on the animated television series as the director, writer, and showrunner, while Richard Jeffery will serve as co-director after directing the television episodes "Sleepytime" (series 2, episode 26) and "The Sign" (series 3, episode 49).[9] The voice cast and crew of the regular series will return,[9] with show creator Joe Brumm reprising his role as writer and director for the film.[10] In February 2025, Cosmic Dino Studio announced via their official Instagram account that they would provide the film's animation.[11] Amber Naismith will serve as the producer,[9] while Joff Bush will return as the composer.[12]
The film is a joint collaboration between Disney, BBC Studios and Ludo Studio. Disney will handle theatrical and streaming rights. BBC Studios will be responsible for financing and licensing rights, and Ludo Studio will produce the feature-length film.[13]
Financial support for the film is provided by the federal government of Australia and the state government of Queensland by tax incentives.[14]
Release
[edit]Bluey: The Movie is scheduled to be released theatrically worldwide in 2027.[1][2][3][10][13]
Home media
[edit]After its theatrical release, the film will stream on ABC iView and ABC Kids in Australia, and Disney+ for the rest of the world.[15][5][12][1]
