Early life and education

[edit]

Bir Singh hails from Nagoke village in Tarn Taran district of Punjab. He studied mechanical engineering at Amritsar Group of Colleges and began writing and performing music during his college years.

Career

[edit]

Bir Singh started his career around 2013 and became known in Punjabi cinema for composing and writing lyrics for films such as *Bhajjo Veero Ve* (song “Chunni Cho Asmaan”) and *Golak Bugni Bank Te Batua*, among others.

Controversy and apology

[edit]

In July 2025, Bir Singh performed at a government-organized cultural programme in Srinagar to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur. The inclusion of singing and dancing sparked sharp criticism from Sikh bodies—including the SGPC—and political figures, who called the event disrespectful to the solemn occasion.[1][2]

On July 25, 2025, he visited Akal Takht and formally apologized to officiating Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj, calling the incident a “management error” due to lack of prior briefing and his direct arrival from Australia. He recited Gurbani and expressed his readiness to accept penance.[3][4]
