Benchmark Gensuite is a U.S.-based software company that develops digital tools for environmental health and safety (EHS), sustainability, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) data management. Founded in the late 1990s as a digital compliance initiative within General Electric, the company became an independent provider of cloud-based EHS solutions under the leadership of founder R. Mukund. Headquartered in Mason, Ohio, Benchmark Gensuite reports over 3 million global users as of 2023 and serves approximately 20% of Fortune 500 companies.[1] The company has been recognized by industry analysts for integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into risk management, sustainability forecasting, and disclosure automation.[2][3]

History

[edit]

Benchmark Gensuite originated in the late 1990s as an internal General Electric initiative to standardize compliance processes through digital tools.[1] It later became an independent software provider under R. Mukund, offering configurable, cloud-based solutions for EHS and sustainability management.

In 2023, Benchmark ESG rebranded as Benchmark Gensuite to reflect its expanded integrated platform.[4] That same year, it received a minority investment from Vista Equity Partners, marking its first external funding round.[5]

The company is ranked among the 25 largest minority-owned businesses in Cincinnati, reporting $58.76 million in 2024 revenue and employing 593 people.[6]

Products and Technology

[edit]

Benchmark Gensuite provides a modular, subscription-based platform used to manage EHS compliance, audits, incident tracking, corrective actions, sustainability metrics, and ESG disclosures.[1] Its tools are adopted across industries including manufacturing, logistics, energy, and construction.

In 2024, the company launched Responsio, an AI-powered tool for managing ESG and EHS data disclosure requests.[7] In 2025, it released Genny AI Helpers, embedded AI features co-developed with subscribers to automate document summarization, data extraction, image analysis, and corrective action planning.[8][9] Benchmark also offers the PSI AI Advisor and Risk AI Advisor, which use machine learning to surface high-risk incidents from large datasets.[10] A deployment at The Heico Companies reported improved identification of potentially serious incidents, reducing manual data review efforts.[10]

Analyst coverage highlights the company’s use of AI to improve sustainability forecasting and supplier risk analysis across value chains.[11] Natasha Porter, Chief Customer Officer, has noted that mobile tools, analytics, and AI can help engage frontline workers and foster proactive safety cultures at scale.[12]

Climate and Sustainability Offerings

[edit]

In July 2025, Benchmark Gensuite partnered with GIST Impact to launch its Sustainability and Climate Risk Management Solution. The tool uses datasets from NASA and NOAA to assess climate risks across operations and supply chains, supporting modeling aligned with CSRD, IFRS S2, and CDP frameworks.[13] According to Verdantix, the company is also among software providers offering AI-enabled forecasting tools to integrate sustainability performance metrics into supply chain planning.[11]

Reports and Research

[edit]

Benchmark Gensuite produces annual benchmarking reports analyzing workplace safety trends. The 2025 EHS Benchmarking Report, cited by *Health & Safety International*, *EHS Today*, and *ISHN*, found that 53% of surveyed EHS leaders saw no improvement or worsening injury frequency, while 51% reported stagnant injury severity rates.[14][15][16] The report also noted that 79% of respondents believe workplace accidents and near misses are underreported. Analysts and safety professionals have pointed to AI-driven tools as a potential solution for automating hazard detection and improving proactive injury prevention.[14][16]

Acquisitions

[edit]

In October 2024, Benchmark Gensuite acquired Anvl, a mobile-first safety software provider. The acquisition aimed to enhance frontline workforce engagement and productivity by digitizing field workflows.[17]

Partnerships

[edit]

In 2024, Benchmark Gensuite partnered with wearable technology firm SlateSafety to integrate biometric data into its EHS dashboards for real-time monitoring of heat stress and lone worker safety. A pilot deployment at Perrigo reportedly reduced heat-related incidents.[18]

Facilities

[edit]

In October 2023, the company opened its new global headquarters in Mason, Ohio, designed to support hybrid work models and collaborative product development.[19]

Recognition

[edit]

Benchmark Gensuite was named a Representative Vendor in the 2025 Gartner Market Guide for EHS Software[1] and ranked as a Leader in Verdantix’s Green Quadrant: EHS Software 2025, which cited the firm’s AI integration, implementation success, and customer satisfaction.[2]

It has been listed among the top ESG software providers globally by *Sustainability Magazine*,[20] which in 2025 highlighted the company’s innovations in AI-driven risk reduction and disclosure automation.[3] Benchmark Gensuite also appears on the Cincinnati Business Courier’s list of the largest minority-owned businesses in the region.[6]
