"Be the One" is the only single by the Japanese EDM duo Pandora, consisting of Tetsuya Komuro of TM Network and Globe and Daisuke Asakura of Access. It was released on January 24, 2018, by Avex Trax. It features Filipina singer Beverly and was the theme for the TV drama Kamen Rider Build.
The single was released in three editions: a regular version, a version with a DVD, and a version featuring a toy.[1]
The song peaked at No. 2 on both the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart and the Billboard Japan Hot 100. It was later certified Gold for 100,000 downloads.
Background
[edit]Pandora was formed by Tetsuya Komuro and Daisuke Asakura in mid-2017.[2] On August 2, 2017, it was announced that they would produce the main theme for Kamen Rider Build, which aired on September 3. It was also revealed that Beverly would serve as the vocalist.[3][4]
Promotion and release
[edit]Ahead of the series' debut, a short music video for the song was released, which featured Pandora and Beverly performing the song in front of an audience. This was also the first time the duo and the singer met face-to-face.[5][6] On September 16, Pandora held their first live performance at Ultra Japan 2017, which featured the first live performance of the song.[7][8] The song was later performed again at the Kamen Rider x Super Sentai Live & Show 2018 festival on January 24, 2018, the day the single was released.[9][10]
A different mix of the song, along with the B-side, "Proud of You", was later released on the duo's first mini-album, Blueprint.[10]
The song debuted at No. 23 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 when it released digitally on January 5.[11] Later, when it released physically, it rose to No. 2.[12] It also debuted at No. 2 on the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart the same week.[13] According to Billboard Japan's Top Singles Sales chart, it sold 40,770 copies that week.[14][12]
