Kiran Central College is an educational institution located in the Batticaloa District of Sri Lanka, within the Koralaippattu South Divisional Secretariat Division. It is situated in the Kiran East Grama Sevaka Division and is one of the pioneering schools in the Kalkudah Educational Zone.
History
[edit]Kiran Central College was established on **November 3, 1945**, through the efforts of local village pioneers under the name **Kiran Government Tamil Mixed School**. The first principal of the school was **Mr. Veerachamy Subramaniam**. Initially, the school operated in a cadjan-thatched shed and gradually developed over time. In 1952, the school was upgraded to the **General Certificate of Education (G.C.E.) Ordinary Level** standard, and its name was changed to **Kiran Maha Vidyalayam**.
In 1987, under the leadership of Principal **Mr. M. Bisath**, the **Arts Stream** was introduced at the G.C.E. Advanced Level. This marked a significant milestone, as two students gained admission to universities, and one student was selected for a teacher training college. In 1996, the **Commerce Stream** was introduced at the Advanced Level.
In 2012, the school was included in the **1,000 Schools Development Program**, which provided essential physical and human resources, further enhancing its growth and development. In 2013, the **Technology Stream** was introduced at the Advanced Level, offering students more opportunities for higher education.
In 2016, the school was renamed **Kiran Central College**. That same year, three students achieved exceptional results by obtaining "A" grades in all nine subjects at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination, marking a historic achievement for the school.
In 2017, the **Mathematics and Science Streams** were introduced at the Advanced Level. In the same year, the school was selected for the **13-Year Guaranteed Education Program** under the Kalkudah Educational Zone, further strengthening its academic programs.
In 2021, Kiran Central College was upgraded to a **National School** under the **National School Development Program**.
Current Status
[edit]As of now, Kiran Central College has **1,100 students**, **60 teaching staff**, and **4 non-teaching staff**. The current principal is **Mr. S. Selvesuthesan**.
