Ayyappan.T, (Ayyappan Thanga Thirupathy) is a prominent figure in Southern India, renowned for his dedicated service in the jute sector.

Early life

Ayyappan completed Higher Secondary Schooling in 1980 at Chintadripet Boys Higher Secondary School and completed a Bachelor's Degree in Economics (B.A) at Pachaiyappa's College, Chennai [Madras University] from 1980 to 1983, which enriched him with worldly knowledge. His passion for Marketing—led him to pursue a formal education in Marketing Management studies [MBA] at Annamalai University, Chidambaram (Tamilnadu) from 1983-1985, where he honed his understanding of Management with a specialization in Marketing. Got Trained in "International Marketing” organized by International Trade Centre, Geneva & UNCTAD/GATT at New Delhi, during his career in JMDC. Ayyappan began his career as a freelance researcher, at the Indian Market Research Bureau [IMRB], Chennai, primarily undertaking interviews from different sectors, and he had the opportunity to conduct in-depth interviews, which has improved his career, in judging a person's requirements and attitude.

Career in Binny Limited

Ayyappan worked in Binny Limited, a Composite Textile Mill, in Chennai, during the period 1988- 1990, as Sales Officer, which gave a focused knowledge of Textiles, on the production, Marketing, and export of multiple Textile products, including, Cotton, Polyester, Viscose, Wool, Silk, etc. The Binny experience has improved his Textiles knowledge, to a greater extent.

Career in Jute Sector

Later, in 1990, Ayyappan joined the Jute Manufactures Development Council (JMDC), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, as a Market Promotion Officer (Grade-1) at Kolkata. Under his leadership, the National Jute Board (NJB) (erstwhile Jute Manufactures Development Council - JMDC) in southern India, prospered a lot, by allowing Jute entrepreneurs to pool resources, share knowledge, and access better markets for their products. His nurturing in southern India has yielded a very most achievement by Transforming the Coir Floor Covering Exporters in Kerala into Jute Floor Covering Exporters and made Kerala the Largest Jute Floor covering Exporters in the world. Through his counseling and promotional efforts and Government schemes, he developed many Jute entrepreneurs, enhancing the entrepreneurial opportunities for the local Jute entrepreneur and lifting many families out of poverty. Though he started his career in JMDC as a Market Promotion Officer, In JMDC, he got elevated to the post of Joint Director and Head-Marketing in NJB, before retiring in 2024, after completing 34 years of service in National Jute Board, Government of India. Ayyappan with his Management knowledge, organized various Jute Fairs, in different parts of the Country more efficiently and successfully. He has also organized various National level fairs and also organized participation in International fairs & events under JMDC/ NJB throughout his 34 years tenure at different Countries. Fashion Shows and Jute Design Contests, Students Outreach programmes were also organized at various places, during his tenure for the promotion and development of the Jute Sector. His Students Outreach Programme in National Institute of Fashion Technology, Kolkata is worth mentioning. Ayyappan's commitment did not stop at the promotion of Entrepreneurs and exporters; he actively engaged in providing and disseminating information about the Jute sector through informative jute blogs. His various informative Jute Blogspots not only motivated the Entrepreneurs and Jute exporters but also developed the Jute sector, as a whole.

Personal Life

Ayyappan Thanga Thirupathy (T.Ayyappan), native of Sivakasi, Virudhunagar District was born on 14th March'1964, in a Tamil Hindu [Bhagyakara] Nadar family at Tamilnadu, in India. His Father's name was Shri. V.V.Thanga Thirupathy Nadar, “”Inventor cum Journalist””, and his mother was Smt.Meenakshi Thai.T. He married Mrs.Valarmathi in 1989, and he has one daughter and one son.

Other than Blogging, Ayyappan has written few Articles about Jute Products making in HEPC’s Monthly Newsletter and also written General Articles in some Newspapers. Various Jute related News articles referring his name has also appeared in various newspapers and magazines. Ayyappan has been interviewed [some cases, Hour long Live-interviews] in Doordharshan Television/ Podhigai TV, Sun TV and Asianet TV, All India Radio [AIR], etc., as part of Jute promotion and development.
