Arturo Infante Almeida (born November 18, 1962) is the Art Specialist and Curator for the UTSA Art Collection, author, artist, and arts advocate. He is best known for his long-standing role curating exhibitions and developing publications that highlight Texas-based and Latinx artists.[1] Almeida was born in Brownsville, Texas, grew up in Corpus Christi, and currently lives in San Antonio.
He studied general business at Del Mar College and has been recognized for his contributions to the arts with several honors, including a Congressional Certificate of Recognition from U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar,[2] a Senate Proclamation from Leticia Van de Putte, and official congratulations from Mayor Ron Nirenberg for the grand opening of the “Cultural Bounty” exhibition in 2024.[3]
Almeida curated the book Arte: Selections from the UTSA Art Collection, as well as several exhibition catalogs including Veinticinco: 25 Original Print Editions, VOZ: Selections from the UTSA Art Collection (2018), and Sebastián in San Antonio.[4]
He also contributes biographies for the upcoming publication Estampas de la Raza: Contemporary Mexican American Prints from the Romo Collection, and has curated numerous exhibitions through the Texas Contemporary Artists Series.
In 2024, UTSA established the Arturo Infante Almeida UTSA Art Collection Endowment in his honor.[5]
He was interviewed by NPR for his work in the arts.[6]
