Areen Masrour Barzani is a Kurdish Politician from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. He is the eldest son of Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), and the grandson of former KRG President Masoud Barzani.

Early life and education

Areen Barzani was born in Erbil into the influential Barzani family. He is the son of Masrour Barzani and grandson of Masoud Barzani, both prominent Kurdish political leaders.

Career and diplomacy

Barzani has served in the KRG as head of the GCC Unit, responsible for coordinating with Gulf Cooperation Council member states.[1] He has accompanied his father on diplomatic visits, including the 2023 World Government Summit in Dubai.

Kurdistan Foundation

In December 2024, Areen Barzani founded the Kurdistan Foundation, a non-governmental organization aimed at empowering Kurdish youth, supporting education, and fostering innovation. At its launch, he spoke in Kurdish, Arabic, and English, stating that the foundation would serve as a platform to unify efforts for regional development.[2] One of its first projects, Jobs KRD, reportedly created over 2,000 jobs in its first year.
