The American Communist Party (ACP) is a Marxist–Leninist political party in the United States founded on July 21, 2024. The organization was formed by a group of members from various local Communist Party USA (CPUSA) clubs who, according to their own statements, sought to establish a party that better reflected what they described as the original principles of American communism.

Founding

[edit]

According to the ACP's founding declaration, the party was created as a response to what its founders describe as an ideological and organizational drift within the CPUSA. They claim that the CPUSA’s 32nd National Convention marked a departure from its foundational commitments, alleging increased alignment with the Democratic Party and a dilution of Marxist–Leninist principles.[1] The CPUSA has publicly rejected these claims and has disputed the ACP’s characterization of the convention and the broader party leadership.[2] Several CPUSA chapters also denied participation in the ACP’s founding statement, raising questions about representation.

Organization and Leadership

[edit]

The ACP is governed by a seven-member Executive Board, including:

  • Haz al-Din – Executive Chairman
  • Christopher Helali – International Secretary
  • Carlos Garrido – Secretary of Education
  • Kyle Pettis – Director of Personnel
  • Noah Khrachvik – Party Treasurer
  • Eddie Smith – Board Member
  • Jackson Hinkle – Board Member

The party plans to establish a Central Committee on May 2, 2025, with one representative elected from each of the 31 reported active chapters.

International Activity

[edit]

The ACP has engaged in international outreach efforts. In December 2024, it signed a cooperation agreement with the Communist Party of Tajikistan, brokered by the International Solidarity Group with the DPRK, outlining shared educational and political activities.[3] On February 23, 2025, several ACP leaders, including Helali, Hinkle, and al-Din, attended the funeral of Lebanese political figure Hassan Nasrallah.[4] While the ACP is still establishing its presence, it has cited such international engagements as evidence of growing recognition among foreign communist and anti-imperialist groups.

As of 2025, the ACP does not hold any federal or state-level political offices. One party member, Christopher Helali, serves in a local capacity as High Bailiff of Orange County, Vermont, elected as a write-in candidate with 446 votes in 2024. Voter turnout in the race was approximately 5.44%.[5][6]
