Alina Matyukhina is a computer scientist and cybersecurity expert. Originally from Ukraine, she now lives in the canton of Zug.[1]

Life and Work

Since 2024, Alina Matyukhina has been leading the cybersecurity division of Siemens Building Technologies (Smart Infrastructure) in Zug. Her research focuses on cryptography and code authorship attribution. She also serves as Chair of the "Smart Cities & Infrastructure Working Group" at the Swiss Cyber Institute.[2]

Matyukhina studied mathematics at Donetsk National University. She was later awarded a research fellowship in cryptography at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). She received her PhD degree in computer science from University of New Brunswick with a thesis on "Feasibility of Deception in Code Attribution".[3]

In 2021, she was invited to the World Economic Forum as a cybersecurity expert, where she spoke about protecting smart building technology from cyberattacks and outlined a seven-step process for effectively safeguarding smart buildings against attacks on building control systems.[4] In 2022, Matyukhina was named "Cyber Security Woman of the Year"[1] and in 2023, she was included on the Forbes-"30 under 30" list.[5] Furthermore, her career path makes her an important female role model in the field of information security. In 2022, she was recognized with the "Global Leadership Women in Tech" award for her dedication to increasing the number of women in the tech industry.[6]
