Alexander Bůžek (ˈbuːʒɛk; born 28 February 2006) is a Czech-Swiss-Canadian student, software developer, and ice hockey administrator. He currently serves as Treasurer of Thor Amsterdam, a student ice hockey association based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He is also the lead developer of Demi-Function, a video game developer based in Dresden, Germany.
Early life and education
[edit]Bůžek was born in Kilchberg, Zurich, Switzerland, to Czech parents. He holds triple nationality: Czech, Swiss, and Canadian.[1] He grew up in Adliswil, Switzerland, until age 11 when his family moved to North Vancouver, Canada. At 15, he relocated to Dresden, Germany, and at 18, to Amsterdam, Netherlands.
He attended Argyle Secondary School in North Vancouver but did not graduate there due to relocation. He completed the International Baccalaureate program at Dresden International School.[1] Bůžek is currently studying Law in Society at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.[1]
Sports background
[edit]Bůžek has been involved in sports since childhood. He began playing ice hockey at six years old, most notably acting as a goalie for Thor Amsterdam and as a centre for THS Adliswil in Switzerland, and a multitude of teams in North Vancouver.[2] He also played rugby union for two seasons during high school.
He practiced judo across several countries. He was affiliated with Judo Club Silhtal in Switzerland,[3] Seikidokan in North Vancouver, Canada,[4] and the SV Sachsenwerk e.V. Judo department in Dresden, Germany.[5] He competed at the provincial level in various tournaments.
His other athletic interests include mountain biking, running, swimming, and skiing. Bůžek has sustained two major sports injuries: a back injury from a fall during bouldering and a dislocation from judo.[1]
Professional experience
[edit]Since September 2022, Bůžek has worked as Lead Developer at Demi-Function, a cofounder position based in Dresden, Germany, with a hybrid working model. He leads software development projects and contributes technical expertise.[1]
Role at Thor Amsterdam
[edit]For the 2024–2025 season, Bůžek serves as Treasurer of Thor Amsterdam, where he manages the club’s financial operations, including budgeting, sponsorships, and compliance. His contributions support the organization’s growth and the provision of ice hockey opportunities for students in Amsterdam.[6]
Personal life
[edit]Bůžek is multilingual and has lived in Switzerland, Canada, Germany, and the Netherlands. He holds citizenship in Czech Republic, Switzerland, and Canada.[1]
