Luca Di Gennaro Splendore (born in Naples, Italy, in 1975) is an applied statistician specializing in humanitarian data. He is a former staff member of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees[1] (UNHCR) and a former statistician for European Union Election Observation Missions (EUEOM[2]) and a former senior statistician National Statistics Office (NSO[3]) Malta. Currently, he is a Fellowships Fellow under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions at the University of Malta.
Biography
[edit]Luca Di Gennaro Splendore studied at the University of Bologna, where he received PhD in Applied Statistics. He served as a Senior Lecturer in Statistics at the Faculty of Economics at University of Pompeu Fabra. Later, became became a in for European Union Election Observation Missions all around the world: Nigeria (2015, 2023), Paraguay (2018), Peru (2016), Tunisia (2015), Kosovo (2014), Honduras (2014), Kenya[4] (2013) and Angola (2017). He was also held the position of Senior Statistician[5] at the National Statistics Office of Malta. From 2020 to 2021, he was a staff member of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, he has was for refugee data in Americas[1] and the relation with the Americas statistics offices.[6]
From 2023, he became a Fellowships Fellow under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions at the University of Malta, in the field of Applied Statistics and the role of Official Statistics in the society. His primary research interests lie in official statistics and applied statistics. Specifically, he focuses on the role of official statistics in society. He has published more than 20 articles[7] in official statistics leading journals including Journal of Official Statistics[8] and Journal of IAOS,[9] as well as he published on election.[10][11]
He participated in the major international official statistician meetings: United Nations Economic Commission for Africa[12] (UNECA), Central American Integration System[13] (SICA), United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean[14] (ECLAC), United Nations Economic Commission for Europe[15] (UNECE) and United Nations Global Network Webinar of United Nations Statistics Division[16] (UNSD), as well as delivered keynote speech[17][18] and presentation in a international conferences.[19][20][21]
