Akbar Matlabi-Zadeh (23 July 1963 – 12 June 2025) was an Iranian nuclear engineer, a faculty member at Shahid Beheshti University, and a physics lecturer at Islamic Azad University of Yazd .[1] He was killed during the June 2025 Israeli strikes on Iran.
Biography
[edit]Matlabi-Zadeh was born in 1963 in Yazd. He served for years as the head of the Shahid Karimi Group, a subdivision of the Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research (SPND).[2]
In March 2019, the U.S. Department of the Treasury sanctioned him. According to the department, he was involved in research related to weapon systems, explosives, and shock testing. He reportedly supervised military-related projects within the Shahid Karimi Group and served as a personal advisor to Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, the then-head of SPND.[2]
On 12 June 2025 he was killed during the June 2025 Israeli strikes on Iran together with other Iranian nuclear scientists at the age of 61.[3]
