Draft:Airdog (company)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Airdog is an international air purification technology company that develops and manufactures air purifiers using proprietary electrostatic filtration technology. Founded in 2007 as Silicon Valley Air Experts Inc., the company operates globally through subsidiaries including Airdog USA Inc. and Suzhou BeiAng Smart Technology Co. Ltd.

History

[edit]

Airdog was originally founded in 2007 as Silicon Valley Air Experts Inc. by Dr. Yan Zhang and Dr. Hongyu Ran.[1] The company initially focused on ionic wind research for laptop cooling applications before pivoting to air purification when their technology demonstrated natural dust and pollutant collection capabilities.

The company operates under a "Developed USA, Manufactured China" model, with design and research centered in Silicon Valley while production occurs across manufacturing facilities in Suzhou, Wuhu, and Wenzhou, China.[2]

Technology

[edit]

Airdog's core technology is Two-Pole Active (TPA) filtration, an electrostatic air purification system that the company claims captures particles down to 0.0146 microns.[3] The five-step process includes pre-filtration, electrostatic field generation, ionic charging and destruction of particles, collection plate capture, and catalytic odor removal.

The company holds 168 registered patents globally as of 2024, with patent applications filed in multiple countries.[4][5]

Products

[edit]

The company's product lineup includes residential air purifiers in the X-series (X3, X5, X8), specialized pet air purifiers, mist-free humidifiers, smart fans, and commercial-grade systems for healthcare and educational facilities.[6] The Airdog X5 model received FDA 510(k) Class II medical device clearance in November 2022.[7]

Reception

[edit]

Consumer Reports conducted independent laboratory testing of the Airdog X5, finding it "impressive at removing dust, smoke, and pollen from a room's air when run at its highest speed."[8]

The company's products have been featured in technology publications including PCMag[9] and CNET[10], and included in product recommendations by Newsweek[11] and Rolling Stone.[12]

Corporate structure

[edit]

The company operates through multiple entities, with Airdog USA Inc. handling North American operations and Suzhou BeiAng Smart Technology Co. Ltd. serving as the primary manufacturing and patent-holding entity.[13] Patent assignments indicate ongoing corporate restructuring, with technology rights consolidated under the Chinese subsidiary as of 2025.

Leadership

[edit]

Dr. Yan Zhang serves as CEO, holding a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from UC Santa Cruz. Co-founder Dr. Hongyu Ran brings aerodynamics expertise from previous work on Apple products.[14]
