The Air University Innovation Accelerator (AUiX) is a United States Department of the Air Force think tank which works to identify and develop innovative ideas from students of Air University and connect them into the innovation ecosystem. AUiX seeks to promote open innovation within Air University and the DoD more widely. Part of Air University, it provides support to the Air Force, the Space Force, the joint services, civilian federal agencies, and academic research institutions.
History
[edit]The Air University Innovation Accelerator (AUiX) was formed in 2021 as a resource to “sit atop”.[1] the various schools and centers of Air University with the aim of taking problem solving ideas one step beyond pen and paper by fostering collaborative innovation outside of typical silos. AUiX receives these ideas through various means and then examines them for possible development and implementation through networking partnerships and funding[2]
Since 2018 AUiX has hosted its LEDx Strategy (Leadership Educational Developmental eXperience: Strategy) annually in Montgomery, AL[3]. Previously featured speakers include Prof. Jeffery DeGraff, Dr. Valda Harris Montgomery (daughter of Richard H. Harris), and Christoph Loch. Other contributing institutions include Johns Hopkins University[4] and University of Cambridge[5][6]. This event focuses on bringing together thought leaders and innovators from different fields to share insights related to leadership and innovation.
In 2023, AUiX began operating out of The Eagle Institute, a facility built within the historic Kress building in order to connect Air University with local academia/industry[7]. [8]Including a "classroom of the future", wargaming/strategy suite, makerspace, and several other collaborative spaces, The Eagle Institute serves as a beacon for innovators of all backgrounds to contribute to the mission and vision of AUiX.
