Mufti Abdul Wahab Chachar (مفتی عبدالوہاب چاچڑ, مفتي عبدالوهاب چاچڙ) (born March 26, 1942) is an Islamic scholar, writer, and editor from Pakistan. He is the chief editor of the five-decade-old magazine Monthly Shariat Sukkur and has authored more than 20 books.[1]
Education
[edit]Chachar lost his father at the age of five and was raised by his uncle, Maulvi Muhammad Yousuf. He received his early education at Madrasah Qasim-ul-Uloom, Ghotki, in 1956.[2] He later studied at Madrasah Madinatul Uloom, Pano Aqil, under the guidance of Maulana Abdul Hadi Memon. He continued his education at Madrasah Qasim-ul-Uloom, graduating in 1967.[1]
Teaching Career
[edit]Chachar initially taught at Madrasah Qasim-ul-Uloom Ghotki without compensation.[2] He later lectured at Darul Alum Hamadiya, Haliji Sharif, and Mazhar-ul-Uloom, Sukkur.[2] In 1981, he founded his own madrasah, Jamia Arabiya Darul Uloom al-Shariah, in Rohri.[2]
Literary Contributions
[edit]Chachar began writing with the guidance of Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasmi and contributed to publications such as Al-Rahim, Malir Digest, Daily Hilal Pakistan, and Inqilab.[1][2] He has authored numerous books in Sindhi, Urdu, Persian, and Arabic.[3]

Monthly Shariat Sukkur
[edit]In 1973, Chachar established the Sharia Publication, which began publishing the monthly magazine Shariat. Initially edited by Maulana Fazlullah Indhar, Chachar later took over as editor.[1][2]

Political Involvement
[edit]Chachar has been affiliated with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) and was a close associate of Mufti Mahmud. He contested provincial elections in Sindh in 1987 and 2002 but was unsuccessful.[5] He has played an active role in national and religious movements and has written extensively against the Kalabagh Dam.[2]
Spiritual Influence
[edit]Chachar was a disciple of Maulana Hamadullah Halijavi and later followed Pir Zulfiqar Ahmad Naqshbandi of the Naqshbandiyya order.[2]
