The 84th Independent Field Battery, RCA, is a Canadian Army reserve artillery Independent Battery. It is located in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, at 82 Parade Street.
History

[edit]The 84th Independent Field Battery, RCA originated in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia on 4 October 1878, when the 'Yarmouth Battery of Garrison Artillery' was authorized to be formed. It then went through a series of designations from 1878-1968.

Today
[edit]The 84th Ind Fd Bty today parade at 82 Parade Street, Yarmouth, NS. The unit parades 7-pm to 10-pm on Tuesday Evenings, NS. Trades that are available in this unit are, Artillery Officer, Gunner, Financial Services Administrator and Human Resources Administrator. 110 84th Bty Army Cadet Corps is affiliated with the unit.
The Unit is under the CO of 1st Field Regiment, 36th Brigade, and 5th Division.
Tasks and Operations
[edit]Although being an artillery unit, the unit's mission task also pertains to the local needs. The East Coast is unfortunately hit harder than other parts of Canada in terms of natural disasters, being prone to hurricanes and blizzards. 84th Bty consistently responds to natural disasters when military assistance is requested by Provinces in the Maritimes. 84th Bty has been training and deploying personal no operations such as Operation Reassurance, Operation Calumet, and Operation Amarna.
Equipment
[edit]As any combat arms unit in the Canadian Army, members are regularly equipped with personal weapons but being an artillery unit, also with short-long range artillery.[3]
