4th Street (formerly 4th Street Traffic)
4th Street (stylised 4TH STREET) is a melodic pop‑rock band originally formed in the South Wales valleys, active under their former name 4th Street Traffic before rebranding.
History Formation and Early Years (as 4th Street Traffic) The band began in the South Wales valleys (Cardiff and surrounding areas), performing extensively under the name 4th Street Traffic. They built their initial reputation around 2009–2011, supporting national acts and touring extensively across the UK . Their single “Together We Stand / As Long” peaked at number 96 on the UK Official Physical Singles Chart in February 2011 .
Transition to 4th Street Around 2013–2014, the band evolved their sound and shortened their name to 4th Street, releasing their debut album Wake Up Call, which sold approximately 3,000 hard copies and spurred a 15-date UK tour. They performed at Red Dragon FM’s (now Capital FM) Party in the Park in 2005 before, drawing crowds of around 25,000 .
They followed this with a second album, Kick the Habit, recorded with producer Romesh Dodangoda (known for working with Stereophonics, Kids in Glass Houses, Funeral for a Friend, Twin Atlantic). The album gained attention from Stereophonics members Kelly and Richard Jones, leading to a support slot at a Summer in the City concert held at Cardiff City Stadium, in front of 30,000 people . Kick the Habit reportedly sold over 6,000 copies (physical and downloads) and solidified the band’s profile .
Later Releases and Touring Following years of touring and multiple EPs, their third album Claim to Fame was completed in late 2013/early 2014, promoted by singles “Long Way Round”, “Bitter Sweet”, and “Golden Girl”. The band toured heavily through UK festivals and venues through mid‑2015, with hopes to launch a fourth album in summer 2015 .
As 4th Street, they continued festival and live performances through the late 2010s and into the 2020s, with notable appearances including Regency Hall in Saundersfoot on 9 November 2024 .
Musical Style and Legacy 4th Street’s sound blends melodic rock, AOR and arena-friendly pop‑rock with driving rhythms, hook-driven songwriting and high‑energy live shows. Their music has been compared to acts like Stereophonics, Twin Atlantic, and older Bon Jovi-style glam‑powered rock performance .
The band is praised for their tireless work ethic and festival‑ready stage presence, often described as one of the hardest‑working unsigned UK rock acts of the 2000s and early 2010s .
Members Official current line‑up reported in Bandsintown includes Alastair Britton (lead vocals & guitar); Jonathan May (lead guitar); Sam Wright (bass & vocals); and Morgan Evans (drums) . Earlier line‑ups during the 4th Street Traffic period are less documented, but their early releases featured different personnel.
