Daria Sergeyevna Kuznetsova (Russian: Дарья Сергеевна Кузнецова, born July 29, 1980, Saratov, Saratov Oblast, RSFSR, USSR[1]) is a Russian composer, record producer and songwriter.[2] In 2020, Daria wrote and produced the projects that made up the bulk of the compositions on Zara's album “At Full Volume” («На полную громкость»),[3] as well as the singles “She's Mine” («Она моя») and “Razor Sharp” («Острой бритвой») for Russian singer Dima Bilan.[4] In 2021, she worked with Mikhail Gutseriev and created the GM Universe project, the first series in the history of the Russian music industry consisting of music videos of A-list artists.[5][6]

Early years

[edit]

She was born on July 29, 1980 in the city of Saratov. From the age of five she began studying at the Central Children's Music School, violin class. While still at a very young age, she first appeared on the stage of the Saratov Conservatory, performing famous works by Beethoven accompanied by a symphony orchestra.[7][8] At the age of 15 she began to professionally study vocal and at the same time entered the Lyceum with advanced study of mathematics and physics, and two years later she became a student of the Faculty of Economics of SGAU.[9]

In December 1997 Daria was invited to take part in an international festival in Cairo (Egypt). After arriving from Cairo, she decided to finally connect her life with music and enrolled in the Gnessin School, where she met Dima Bilan, Yulia Nachalova, Yuri Saulsky, and then Daria began to write her first songs.[10] Daria graduated from the college with an externship and after a while became seriously interested in television journalism.

In 2004, she came to Saratov and started working in the economic sphere. After a year of work in the new sphere, she headed two large joint-stock companies and became the head of the main trading city-forming enterprise, and in 2014 Daria left the post of the head of the enterprise and decided to move with her family to Sochi.[1] In 2016, Daria's first author compositions with various artists were released: Alexander Showa (Nepara group) and Arthur Best with the song “I'll steal her”, Zara “Not Proud”, “Don't Be Silent” performed by singer Alsu and “When I Leave” for Emin in co-authorship with Tatiana Rogozina. All musical projects in which Daria took part, received various awards of the main music awards of the country: “Golden Gramophone”, “Song of the Year”, “Chanson Award”.

Career

[edit]

In 2020, she wrote and realized the cycle of music production of a number of songs that formed the main part of the album of Alsu “I want to dress in white” and singer Zara “At Full Volume”.[11] Also in 2020, Daria wrote the composition “She is mine” for Dima Bilan. This song was highly appreciated by the music community, having collected many awards of various prizes. The video for the song “She is mine” caused a real stir in the network and attracted increased attention.[2] In 2021 she started working with Mikhail Gutseriev.[12] The composer's collaboration with the poet culminated in the GM Universe project,[13] the collaboration between the composer and the poet resulted in the project “GM Universe”, the first series in the history of the Russian music industry consisting of clips of A-category artists:[14] poetry and music in a beautiful adaptation, all episodes are united by a single artifact that radically changes something in the main character's life.[15]

The first episode was the music video “I'll Show Paranoia” performed by Anatoly Tsoi. The second was created with the participation of Ani Lorak[16] and was an adaptation of the song “Near, but not together”. Sergey Lazarev continued his journey through the “Universe” with the track “Don't Try to Repeat”. The next episode was the work with Olga Buzova,[17] and that's just some of the heroes of GM Universe. All music videos and songs are topping the country's major charts.[18] Daria as a composer became an absolute record holder in the number of diplomas of the music festival “Song of the Year 2023”. And also two years in a row she was nominated in the category “Best Composer” according to the academicians of the “Russian National Music Award Victoria”. In the same season together with Sergey Lazarev three hits were released: “Don't try to repeat”, “Taste of Raspberry”, “Scarlet Sunset”, “Taste of Raspberry” and “Scarlet Sunset” became winners of the “Golden Gramophone” award.[19][1]

At the RuTV 2024 Awards, Sergey Lazarev, receiving the award for the main song of the year “Scarlet Sunset”, invited composer Daria Kuznetsova to the stage and solemnly handed her the statuette. Also, the video for the song “Razor Sharp” performed by Dima Bilan, which is part of Daria's production project “GM Universe”, won three major awards as the best video at the Zhara Music Awards, RuTV and the Russian National Music Awards Victoria.[20]

In the fall of 2024 it is planned to release a new dramatic and ultra-modern series “Give Show!”, the main role in it is played by actor Miloš Biković, playing a modern pop star. Daria is the musical producer of the project, in the framework of which she wrote several songs specifically for the main character Bikovic. The first of the songs, “Dance with me!”, has already been released on all digital platforms. The series is released on the platform Evie, directed by Dmitry Litvinenko.[21][22]
