Clare English

Clare English is a Scottish journalist and broadcaster.
Background
[edit]English was born in Maryhill, Glasgow. She moved to the Bearsden near Glasgow when she was aged 12. She attended St Ninian's High School, Kirkintilloch. She studied Scottish Highers retakes at Langside College and an undergraduate degree at Glasgow College, which she then was awarded.[1]
Career
[edit]English started her working life at the community broadcasting department of Radio Clyde. After two years at Radio Clyde, she transferred to BBC Radio Scotland's newsroom and soon became the presenter of a programme aimed at children on the station.[2]
In 1990, she co-presented Saturday Night Clyde, an arts programme, on BBC Two England.[3]
At a time prior to 1995, English presented Good Morning Scotland on BBC Radio Scotland. In 1994, English began being a political correspondent for BBC Scotland at Westminster.[4]
In 1997, English began co-presenting PM on BBC Radio 4.[3] She was a presenter of the programme for six years.[5]
In 2007, English began presenting The Radio Cafe on BBC Radio Scotland. Later in 2007, she began presenting The Book Cafe on the same station.[6]
In 2011, she presented a series called Pioneers on BBC Radio Scotland.[7] The series examined pioneers in their area of specialisation.[8] In 2014, she hosted the first series of The Ripple Effect,[9] a programme exploring people's experiences of mental health problems,[10] on BBC Radio Scotland. Also in 2014, she hosted a series named The Pain of Fame on BBC Radio Scotland.[11] The second series of The Ripple Effect was broadcast in 2015.[12]
By mid-2020, English had left the BBC and had recently various hosted events and carried out media training.[13]
In 2022, she was on the board of Women's Enterprise Scotland.[14]
English now carries out a large number of events and public discussions moderations.[15]
