Overview

Circle City Prep, also known as Circle City Preparatory School and/or CCP is a tuition-free, college-preparatory public charter school located on the Far Eastside of Indianapolis, Indiana. Serving students in kindergarten through 8th grade, Circle City Prep is committed to ensuring all scholars become ambitious, powerful learners and responsible, positive leaders prepared for college and a life of opportunity. The school was founded in August 2017 by Megan Murphy.

Mission Through excellence in academic instruction and character development, Circle City Prep ensures all K-8 students are ambitious, powerful learners and responsible, positive leaders on a path to college and a life of opportunity.

History & Growth

  • 2017-2018: Opened with 72 scholars in Kindergarten and 1st grade, supported by 8 founding staff members.
  • 2019-2020: Expanded to 212 scholars (K-4). Staff grew to 24. The school purchased its permanent facility and began renovations on the K-2 bathroom wing.
  • 2020-2021: Enrollment reached 262 scholars (K-5) with 32 staff. New electives introduced: Dance, Spanish, Computer Science. Extracurriculars expanded to include clubs (e.g., drama, robotics, mentorship groups). The facility added an Intermediate Wing, Family Resource Center, and intervention space. Community members helped build the CCP Garden. The school was reauthorized for five more years by the Indiana Charter School Board.
  • 2022-2023: Serving 330 scholars (K-6) with 42 staff members. Continued offering electives and introduced additional clubs like Crafty Cats and Yoga. Opened Phase 1 of the Fresh Prep Kitchen.
  • 2024-2025: Full K-8 school with 415 scholars and 63 staff. Enrichment now includes Performing Arts, Music, and Physical Education. Expanded extracurricular offerings to include Photography Club, Soccer, and Gymnastics. Notably, Circle City Prep teams were named:
    • 2024 Flag Football Champions
    • 2025 Girls Basketball Champions
    • 2025 Coed Soccer (Undefeated)

Academics Circle City Prep offers a robust academic program featuring:

  • Wit & Wisdom (ELA): A comprehensive curriculum rooted in rigorous, knowledge-building texts.
  • The Writing Revolution: A daily writing program developing skills in narrative, informative, and persuasive formats.
  • Guided Reading & Phonics (K-4): Small group instruction based on reading level, vocabulary, and phonics development.
  • Zearn (Math): A tech-integrated program blending individual computer-based lessons with teacher-led small group instruction.
  • i-Ready: A diagnostic and instructional platform supporting personalized academic progress.
  • Amplify Science (4-8): A hands-on, inquiry-driven curriculum developing science literacy and critical thinking.

The school day includes daily small group instruction, and the extended day model provides time for deeper learning and enrichment.

Enrichment & Student Life

  • Daily enrichment rotations include Performing Arts, Physical Education, and Music.
  • Extracurriculars: Crafty Cats, Gymnastics, Flag Football, Photography Club, and more.
  • Quarterly "excursions" (field trips) offered to every grade, fostering real-world learning.
  • Celebrations and events include College Day, Career Day, Heritage Month, and Black History Month performances.

Technology & Facilities

  • Each scholar receives a Chromebook for school use.
  • The building is secure and access-controlled.
  • Facilities include dedicated academic wings, an intervention suite, and the Fresh Prep Kitchen.

Community Partnerships

  • Patachou Foundation: Provides nutritious, chef-prepared meals free of charge.

Merger with ACE Prep[1]

In May 2025, the Indiana Charter School Board approved the merger of ACE Prep Academy with Circle City Prep. ACE Prep, a K–6 charter school located near the Indiana State Fairgrounds, transferred its charter to Circle City Prep, expanding the Circle City network to include three schools.

Governance Circle City Prep is authorized by the Indiana Charter School Board and operates as an independent charter school under the leadership of its founder and a board of directors.
