Chase Ergen

Chase Ergen (born 1988, in the United States) is an American entrepreneur, investor, and political strategist active in decentralized finance, telecommunications, and blockchain advocacy. He is a board member of DeFi Technologies Inc. and serves as Executive Director of the political action committee Make America Wealthy Again (MAWA).[1] Ergen is the son of billionaire businessman Charlie Ergen, co-founder and chairman of Dish Network and EchoStar.[2][3]

Early life and Education

Chase Ergen was born in 1988 in the United States. He is the son of Charlie Ergen, a prominent telecommunications executive, and his wife Candy Ergen. Charlie Ergen was born on March 1, 1953, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Details of Chase Ergen’s early education and upbringing remain private, though he has publicly discussed his early exposure to telecommunications and finance through his family's business endeavors.[4]

He graduated from the University of Denver in 2010 with a degree in Global Political Economics and International Humanitarian Law.

Career

Ergen’s early professional experience includes over 20 years in the satellite and telecommunications industry. He has publicly described himself as a “telecoms native” who transitioned into blockchain and digital assets through early Bitcoin mining.[5] His background in legacy infrastructure and emerging technologies has positioned him as a bridge between traditional telecom networks and decentralized finance.[6]

In March 2025, Ergen was appointed to the board of DeFi Technologies Inc., a publicly traded fintech company that bridges traditional capital markets with the decentralized finance ecosystem. His appointment was publicly supported by CEO Olivier Roussy Newton.

During Ergen’s tenure, DeFi Technologies[7] reported record financial growth, generating C$62.7 million in revenue and C$44.8 million in EBITDA in Q1 2025[8], up from C$4.9 million the year prior. Additionally, the company successfully listed on Nasdaq[9] and was included in institutional indices such as the MVIS Global Digital Assets Equity Index and MSCI Canada Small Cap Index.[10]

Chase Ergen is the Executive Director of Make America Wealthy Again, a youth-oriented Super PAC focused on pro-innovation financial policy and digital asset legislation. The organization advocates for a 0% capital gains tax on the first $1 million of digital asset income and policies encouraging economic participation through decentralized technologies.[11] Ergen’s leadership in MAWA has garnered attention for its mix of populist language and pro-crypto legislative goals.[12]

Controversy

In 2019, Ergen was wrongfully detained in Nevis concerning a CBD case. He was later released without charges and maintains a clean record.[15]
