Charlotte Plank is an Australian-British singer. She has released three solo singles, and has also featured on the single "Dancing Is Healing" by Rudimental and Vibe Chemistry, which charted at No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart. She is also a member of Loud LDN.

Life and career

Early life

Plank was born in Australia,[2] and attended Notting Hill Academy of Music.[3] Her parents met in Australia in the early 1990s rave scene; her uncle was a DJ. She first started recording during lockdown;[4] her first works were lo-fi demos.[5] She previously worked at Marks and Spencer.[5]

Early works

On 14 February 2021, she released "Dont U Know", with Frankie Allan and Strictly Banks,[6] and on 13 August 2021, she featured on Reflecting, from Chowerman's EP ANTITHESIS, which also featured Luciferian and Kami-O.[7] On 20 May 2022, Plank self-released "Hate Me".[8] The song detailed Plank's attempts at putting off a potential love interest, due to her own self-hatred.[9] The song brought Plank to the attention of Black Butter Records, who signed her,[10] and rereleased the song on 19 August 2022,[11] the same day as its camcorder-style music video, which was shot with Sexy Lady Massive, a women-only rave in London.[12] On 9 November 2022, she released "Lost Boys",[11] which discusses men's mental health.[5] On 19 January 2023, she released "L.S.D. (Love So Damaged)",[11] which discusses the struggles of a toxic relationship.[5]

Chart success

On 21 April 2023, Plank, Rudimental and Vibe Chemistry, released "Dancing Is Healing",[13] a song about the healing properties of dancing,[14] which charted at No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart,[15] and was certified Silver by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).[16] On 25 April 2023, she released "White Noise",[11] which she had previously performed live.[17] On 18 May 2023,[18] she, Turno, and Skepsis released "Rave Out"; the track was recorded as the first of 22 tracks to come out of a January 2023 writing camp, and discusses men's mental health,[19] and charted at No. 37 on the UK Singles Chart.[15] "Dancing Is Healing" and "Rave Out" later appeared on Plank's mixtape InHer World.[20] Plank and Skepsis later collaborated again in February 2024 for "Green & Gold", a collaboration with Rudimental and Riko Dan[21] of Roll Deep,[22] which charted at No. 29.[23]

Artistry

Plank's inspirations include Fleetwood Mac, Sam Fender, Keith Flint, Orbital, and Bicep.[5] She, Piri, Venbee, Issey Cross, and Willow Kayne are members of Loud LDN, a collective of female and non-binary musicians based in London and its suburbs.[24]
