Charity Hufnagel (nee Griffith) (born 18 June 2001) is an American high jumper and multi-event athlete.[1]

Early life

Charity Hufnagel‘s maiden name is Griffith and her middle name is Sue. She was raised up by a lovely family in a military home. Her father served in the army infantry for 28 years. She has 5 older brothers from oldest to youngest- Jeremy Kyle Jean Wasmer, Christian Lee Griffith, Richard Charles Griffith, Ezra Jordan Griffith, Ira Pusch Griffith. Her mom Alvena Sue Griffith grew up in low income broken family and as well as Richard Lee Griffith, charity’s dad. Alvena, the mother of Charity was a stay at home mom and A substitute teacher over at Rush County schools where they all went to school most of their lives. Alvena and Richard, the mother and father found the Lord Jesus at a later age in life and then they came together. So Charity and her brothers grew up in a Christian household. but until She attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana before transferring to the University of Kentucky.[2] she gave her life to Christ. And then met a man who loved the Lord as well, Noah Hufnagel. They got married within 3 years of knowing each other.

Career

Competing as Charity Griffith in 2022, she finished fifth in the NCAA Outdoor Championship high jump competition.[3]

In 2023, she was named the Most Valuable Performer of the 2023 Mid-American Conference Indoor track Championships and won titles in the pentathlon and the high jump.[4] In June 2023, she won the high jump competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championship held in Austin, Texas.[5] To do so, she set a new personal best height of 1.93m to upset defending champion and 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalist Lamara Distin.[6][7]

She won the pentathlon at the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas in February 2024.[8]

She finished second in the heptathlon at the SEC Outdoor Championships in May 2024, with a personal best tally of 5914 points, in Gainesville, Florida.[9]

She won the 2024 United States Olympic trials with a clearance of 1.94 metres.[10][11]

She was selected for the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing in March 2025.[12]

Personal life

After marrying in July 2023, she took on the surname Hufnagel.[2]
