Awaran (Balochi and Urdu: آواران) is the main city of Awaran District in the Balochistan province of Pakistan. Besides serving as the district headquarters, the city is also the tehsil headquarters and a Union Council.[2]
Geography
[edit]Awaran is situated in the southern part of Balochistan, surrounded by arid mountains, rocky valleys, and desert plains. It lies at an approximate elevation of 529 meters (1,736 feet) above sea level. The region experiences an arid climate, with hot summers and mild winters, and very limited rainfall throughout the year.
Security and Insurgency
[edit]Awaran has been affected by the ongoing Baloch insurgency, with militant groups such as the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) operating in the region. Its remote and mountainous terrain has made it a strategic location for insurgent activity, particularly under the leadership of Dr. Allah Nazar Baloch. The Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps (FC Balochistan) have carried out regular security operations, including intelligence-based raids and clearance missions, to curb militancy.
