Prof. Ali Hasimy[a] (born Muhammad Ali Hasyim, March 28, 1914 – January 18, 1998) was an Indonesian writer, cleric, and regional figure of Aceh.[1]
He is also known as a freedom fighter, political figure, and served as the Governor of Aceh province for two terms, from 1957–1964.[1]
Family
[edit]Hasjmy is the second of 8 siblings. His father, Teuku Hasyim, was a retired civil servant and had one wife named Zuriah Aziz who has 7 children, namely Mahdi A Hasjmy, Surya A Hasjmy, Dharma A Hasjmy, Gunawan Hasjmy, Mulya Hasjmy, Dahlia A Hasjmy, Kamal A Hasjmy.[1]

Career
[edit]- In 1975 he was appointed as a professor (Prof) in the science of da'wah by IAIN Ar-Raniry, Banda Aceh.
- Governor of Aceh for the period 1957-1964
- Governor of Jakarta seconded to Minister of Home Affairs for the period 1964-1968.
- Chairman of the Aceh Ulama Council.
- Rector of the State Islamic Institute of Jamiah Ar Raniry, Darussalam, Banda Aceh.
- Prisoner in Jalan Listrik prison, Medan, for alleged involvement in the Daud Beuereu'eh rebellion in Aceh, September 1953 – May 1954.
- Head of the Aceh Regional Social Service, Kutaraja (1946-1947)
- Head of the North Sumatra Social Service (1949)
- Chief Inspector of the North Sumatra Social Service (1949)
- Chief Inspector of the Aceh Provincial Social Service (1950)

- Wings drooping. This book is a romance of struggle that was completed in 1938, but was not published because the manuscript was lost at Balai Pustaka, during the Japanese occupation.
