Alеna Aurum (formerly Alenka Star Be; full name Alyona Aleksandrovna Fedotova;[1][a] born 16 October 2009 in Odintsovo, Moscow Oblast) is a Russian video blogger on the Likee social network, singer and former radio host.

Aurum rose to fame in 2018–2019 by publishing videos to Likee on the topics of entertainment, sketch, dance and lip sync. In 2020, she entered Likee's global top ten rankings, which contributed to her large rise to prominence. She ranked fourth in the CIS among the most popular bloggers on the social network.[1]

Biography

[edit]

Alyona Alexandrovna Fedotova was born October 16, 2009 in the Russian city of Odintsovo.[2] She later moved to a cottage village near Zvenigorod, where she began creating videos.[3] Initially, Fedotova studied at a regular school and graduated from elementary school with honors. She took vocal, choreography and drawing courses. With her growth in popularity requiring increased engagement in blogging and performing at concerts, she switched to homeschooling. "We decided to optimize the processes of studying and blogging by transferring Alyona to home schooling," the blogger's mother commented.[4]

The account "@alenka_star_be" was registered with Likee on May 22, 2018. After two years of active blogging, Fedotova entered the global top ten on the app's ranking. This contributed to the account's big rise in prominence. Further, in 2021–2022 she ranked fourth in the CIS among Likee's bloggers, with more than 22 million subscribers.[1]

Fedotova began her singing career in 2018, performing Russian poetess Anna Petryasheva's song "Swim, Dolphin!" on the vocal show "I Sing! Kids". In early 2020, the blogger's first official single "Sweet Day" was released. Six months later on October 6, Fedotova published a second track – "We dance". She performed these compositions on stage at the annual Likee Party event held in Saint Petersburg with famous barkers.

Her next release was the ballad "I Don't Write Anymore", which was the first in Fedotova's music career to be listed in the music charts. It tells the story of a desperate affair and because of this Fedotova was criticized by subscribers and music critic Guru Ken, because for her age, fans believe, the girl sings adult songs. A music video was released for "I Don't Write Anymore", directed by Fedotova herself.[5]

On October 28, 2022, Fedotova debuted a duet with the composition "MNE NRA"[b] together with Russian vocalist Anna-Maria Yankovskaya and Zu Rock Band. The release became the soundtrack to the singers' joint talk show of the same name, airing weekly from November 11, 2022, to June 2, 2023, on RADIOKIDSFM; the show MNE NRA has at various times featured Viki Show, Nastya Kosh, Aminka Vitaminka and others.[6] Also on the day of the song's release, the fourth episode of the third season of the program The Nastya and Vova Show on STS Kids was released, with Fedotova as the invited guest.[5] On November 1, 2022, a live version of "MNE NRA" was released. On December 9 of the same year, the singer presented her New Year's Eve solo single "Snowflake".

On June 5, 2023, Fedotova was nominated in three categories (including favorite of the year, best song and collaboration of the year) of the First Music Award of the STS Kids channel's "Super LIKE Show".[7]

On September 8, 2023, the song "Multistory" was presented under her new stage name Alena Aurum. A week later, on September 15, the music video for the song was posted; it is the second music video in the singer's career.

Reception

[edit]

Russian music critic Guru Ken considered Fedotova a phenomenon on the children's internet. In his August 2021 review of the single "I Don't Write Anymore", he noted that the girl has natural ringing, beautiful timbral colors and overtones.[citation needed]
