Ahluwalia is a surname native to the Punjab region of India. It is derived from the words "Ahlu" (a village in Lahore) and "walia" (a Punjabi-language adjectival suffix).[1] It was first adopted by the Sikh chief Jassa Singh, the founder and first leader of the Ahluwalia misl. The surname was adopted by many including his caste followers and soldiers, leading to the formation of the Ahluwalia caste.[2][3] One of the surnames of Ahluwalia caste and its shortened form is Walia.[4]
