Abraham Alvarado (born 4 August 1995) is an American middle-distance runner.[1]

Early life

He attended Atwater High School in Atwater, California before attending California State University, Stanislaus and Brigham Young University.[2][3][4]

Career

He placed second in the 800 metres at the 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and that year lowered his personal best to 1:46.90 for the distance at the Portland Track Festival.[5] He finished fifth competing for BYU in the 800 metres at the 2018 NCAA Division I Indoor Championships before turning professional later that year.[6][7]

In 2021, he lowered his 800 metres personal best to 1:46.15 at the at the Trials of Miles New York City Qualifier.[8] He lowered it again the following month to 1:46.11 at the USATF Showcase.[9] That year he reached the semi-finals of the 800 metres at the US Olympic Trials.[10]

He competed for the United States at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago.[11] He was a pacemaker for the Bowerman Mile run at the 2024 Prefontaine Classic.[12] He qualified for the final of the 800 metres at the 2024 US Olympic Trials, placing eighth overall in a personal best 1:44.90.[13][14]

He finishe second over 800 metres behind Bryce Hoppel at the 2025 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston, Massachusetts in February 2025.[15] The following weekend he was a pacemaker as Yared Nuguse set a new world record in the indoor mile at the Millrose Games in New York.[16][17] In June 2025, he ran a personal best time of 3:33.21 for the 1500 metres at the 2025 BAUHAUS-galan event in Stockholm, Sweden.[18] He was selected as pacemaker for the Bowerman Mile again at the 2025 Prefontaine Classic.[19]
