The 2024 Brawley Cattle Call Park crash was a fatal single-vehicle accident that occurred in the early morning hours of January 8, 2024, in Brawley, California. When First Responders arrived the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames, and all four passengers were pronounced deceased on scene. [1]
Incident
[edit]At approximately 3:30 a.m. PST, the Brawley Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a vehicle fire near Cattle Call Drive, adjacent to Cattle Call Park. Emergency responders from the Brawley Police Department and the Brawley Fire Department arrived to find a vehicle fully engulfed in flames.[1]
Preliminary investigations suggest that the vehicle collided with a tree before catching fire.[2]
Victims
[edit]The Imperial County Coroner's Office later identified the victims as Angelina Martinez, Aaden-Ray Richards, Siara Reign Sanchez, and Amberly Vasquez, all sophomores at Brawley Union High School.[3][4]
Community response
[edit]On January 11, 2024, a candlelight vigil was held at Plaza Park in Brawley, California, to honor the four teenagers who tragically lost their lives in a car crash earlier that week. The event drew hundreds of community members, including family, friends, classmates, and local residents, who gathered to pay their respects and support the grieving families. During the vigil, attendees lit candles, shared memories, and offered prayers in remembrance of the victims. [5][6] The tragedy deeply affected the Brawley community Memorials and fundraisers were organized to honor the victims. [7] A year later, the crash site remained a place of reflection, with flowers and personal mementos left in memory of the victims. [8]
Investigation
[edit]The Brawley Police Department, in coordination with the California Highway Patrol, conducted an investigation into the crash As of January 9, 2024, the cause of the crash remained under investigation.[6]
