2008 Caribbean Cup qualification

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

2008 Caribbean Cup qualification was the preliminary phase to determine the teams that would join Jamaica and Haiti in the final tournament of the 2008 Caribbean Cup, the region's premier football competition. Held between July and November 2008, the qualification featured national teams from the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) competing across three preliminary groups and a second round.

A total of 19 teams participated in the qualifiers, with the group winners and the four best runner‑up sides advancing to join the hosts (Jamaica) and title holders (Haiti) in the final tournament held in December 2008. Matches were spread across various venues in the Netherlands Antilles, Guyana, and the Cayman Islands. Notably, the Saint-Martin team rejoined the competition after an earlier exclusion, while several nations either withdrew or chose not to enter.

The qualification phase determined six teams that would progress to the Caribbean Cup finals. These top performers subsequently fought for the regional title and places in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup, a stepping stone to North America’s major international tournament.
