The 1978 Blue Swords Cup (Pokal der Blauen Schwerter) international figure skating championship took place in Karl-Marx-Stadt, East Germany. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles and pair skating.
On 16 November 1978, Sabine Baeß and Tassilo Thierbach of East Germany placed first in the pair skating competition.[1] On 17 November, Hermann Schulz of East Germany placed first in the men's singles, making a dramatic comeback after a three-year hiatus from competition due to injuries and illness.[2]
In the women's singles competition, Katarina Witt of East Germany won the cup, while Kerstin Wolf, also of East Germany, placed third.[3]
