wpd Group is a developer and operator (IRPP) of onshore wind and solar parks in Europe, based in Bremen, Germany.
The wpd group of companies includes wpd AG (project developer and operator), wpd windmanager (commercial management and technical operation of wind and solar parks) and, through silent partnerships, a number of executing companies. In 2022, wpd had an annual turnover of EUR 3.23 billion.[1]
History
[edit]The company was founded in 1996 by Gernot Blanke and the lawer Klaus Meier, initially as a GmbH in Bremen. In 2001 it was converted into an AG. In 2006, wpd took over the planning company EnerSys and thus expanded its activities to France, Spain, Croatia and Bulgaria. In July 2011, the Münchner Stadtwerke acquired a one-third stake in wpd Europe, the subsidiary for development and operation outside Germany.
In 2022, WPD sold its entire offshore wind power business to the US infrastructure investor Global Infrastructure Partners. Since then, WPD has focused on its onshore wind and solar activities.[2]
Klaus Meier is also member of the supervisory board of BLG AG.[3]

[edit]wpd operates in 33 countries worldwide and has implemented projects with 2,810 wind turbines and a total capacity of 6,970 MW, as well as solar energy projects with a total capacity of 70 MW. Its own portfolio includes projects with a total capacity of 3,512 MW.[4]
