I sure hope that this project isn't shutting down. It would be unfortunate for us to cave to the opinions of non-content contributors at an RfC who probably don't even know how to read a map. Bneu2013 (talk) 02:16, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've marked the page as per this. 20:59, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
I just want to state for the record that I intend to continue maintenance of Washington articles as well as those I brought up to GA status in other states. I'm going to be contributing to both projects, albeit with less detail for roads articles on here. SounderBruce 04:27, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In reality there are two more alternative sites we can choose from - Justapedia and Encycla. The former is a Wikipedia-like site that forked all contents from here last year and has lenient notability requirements. 5.181.21.208 (talk) 13:30, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There is a requested move discussion at Talk:Flamingo Road (Las Vegas)#Requested move 17 July 2025 that may be of interest to members of this WikiProject. TarnishedPathtalk 04:33, 24 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Deprecate the use of "STATE DOT 1 LINK; STATE DOT 2 LINK; and the cit(y/ies) of X, Y, and Z" inside infoboxes

[edit]

The |maint= parameter for the {{infobox road}} and {{infobox street}} templates, as explained in {{infobox road/doc}}, is used for the agency, special-purpose district, or any other jurisdiction that maintains the street or highway. Using STATE DOT 1 LINK; STATE DOT 2 LINK; and the cit(y/ies) of X, Y, and Z inside the |maint= parameter is unnecessary, lazy, and pointless. Here are some examples on how the |maint= parameter should properly be used.

  • Figueroa Street ([[Los Angeles County Department of Public Works|LACDPW]] and local city jurisdictions)
  • Interstate 74 in Illinois ([[Illinois Department of Transportation|IDOT]])
  • U.S. Route 101 in California ([[California Department of Transportation|Caltrans]]; and the [[Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District]])
  • U.S. Route 50 in Kansas ([[Kansas Department of Transportation|KDOT]] and local city jurisdictions)
  • California State Route 1 ([[California Department of Transportation|Caltrans]]; the [[Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District]]; and local jurisdictions)
  • California State Route 2 ([[California Department of Transportation|Caltrans]] and local jurisdictions)

Deprecating "STATE DOT 1 LINK; STATE DOT 2 LINK; and the cit(y/ies) of X, Y, and Z" and applying it to WP:USRD/STDS would help remove all the unnecessary jurisdictions in infoboxes. All 50 U.S. state WikiProjects and all U.S. territory WikiProjects; as well as Wikipedia:WikiProject United States, Wikipedia:WikiProject District of Columbia, and Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Infoboxes should be notified about this. --2600:1700:6180:6290:F96E:8D3F:C484:E350 (talk) 21:54, 6 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

What are you talking about? I am very confused on what the issue is and what you want it changed to. It seems the maint= param already works as you ask for it to be used for? JackFromWisconsin (talk | contribs) 22:06, 6 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Survey

[edit]
  • Oppose as written—I have reverted the change at K-4 and restored the infobox there to how it appeared before. Given that it listed a single city that maintains a portion of the highway in addition to KDOT, it seems to be entirely appropriate to list it by name. The change actually implied a slight falsehood as the version by our anonymous friend said "local jurisdictions" (emphasis mine), yet it was only one. In that case, listing the single city is just easier.
Now, if our anonymous friend were concerned about listing many cities in the parameter, I might be willing to entertain some rational limit (no more than three additional entities). I would also encourage our anonymous friend to open less formal discussions first in the future before jumping into something like an RfC that just screams "I know better than you all, and you all should implement my will". There aren't that many editors left in this project, so I would encourage people to use a lot more tact and goodwill here. Imzadi 1979  22:19, 6 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
