Vaishali Nigam Sinha is an Indian business executive associated with the renewable energy sector. She is the Co-Founder and Chairperson for Sustainability at ReNew, a renewable energy company based in India. She is also the Founding Chair of the ReNew Foundation, the company’s corporate social responsibility arm. [3][4][5][3]

Early life and education

Sinha was born and raised in India. She studied politics and economics at the University of Delhi. She later completed a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University in New York, where she was a recipient of a scholarship from the American Association of University Women. She has also completed the Owner/President Management Program at Harvard Business School.[4][6]

Career

Sinha began her career in the international financial services sector. Between 1994 and 2010, she served as a Director of International Capital Group at Prudential Financial and Executive Vice-President at Daiwa Securities. In 2010, she co-founded Savant, a boutique investment advisory firm. In the same year, Sinha co-founded ReNew.[4][7]

She has served as the Co-Chair of the World Economic Forum’s Alliance for Clean Air and as a member of the World Economic Forum's South Asia Regional Action Group.[8] She has also served on the Global Advisory Council of 1t.org, an initiative focused on global reforestation, and as a Senior Advisor to the Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders.[9][10]

In India, she was appointed in 2025 to the Governing Council of The Energy and Resources Institute. She has served as Co-Chair of the Confederation of Indian Industry Centre for Women Leadership and as Chair of the Gender Committee of the UN Global Compact Network India.[11] She has also served as Chairperson of South Asia Women in Energy.[12][13]

Sinha has served on the Advisory Board of Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) and Columbia Global Centers in Mumbai. She also served as co-editor of Pathways to Equality, a publication developed under the Think20 (T20), an official engagement group of the G20.[14][15]

iCharity

In 2010, Sinha founded iCharity, an online platform for charitable giving. The platform was established to connect donors with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and to provide transparent mechanisms for donations. The platform has also provided payment gateways for donors and issued utilization certificates following the disbursal of funds.[16]

Recognition and accolades

In 2020, she was included in SheThePeople’s 40 Over 40 list and was recognized by Reputation Today among India’s Top 100 PR and Corporate Professionals. That year, SolarQuarter also recognized her among Asia’s Most Influential Women in Renewable Energy.[17][18]

In 2022, she was recognized by Business Insider in its list of 100 People Transforming Business, which highlights individuals driving change in their respective sectors.[2]

In 2024 and 2025, she was recognized by Fortune India as one of the Most Powerful Women. In 2025, Reuters included her in its list of 12 Trailblazing Women Fighting Climate Change for her work in sustainability and climate action.[6][19][1][20]

Personal life

Sinha is married to Sumant Sinha, who is also a co-founder of ReNew.[7]
