I have been working on improving the "Open University of Sudan" article by adding reliable sources to support the existing content. However, one editor reverted all my edits without providing a clear explanation, and I also received a warning accusing me of disruptive editing.

I replied politely asking for clarification but have not received any response. Since I am new to Wikipedia editing, I want to make sure I am following the correct procedures and contributing constructively.

Could you please advise me on how to handle this situation? I am eager to learn and improve my contributions while respecting Wikipedia’s guidelines.

Hello. Writing about your company is discouraged on Wikipedia due to the inherent conflict of interest. If you still want to do this, there are several pages that will help you:

WP:Your first article (this is relevant to any article you make)
WP:Spam (you cannot write content that aims to promote your company)
WP:Paid editing (there are instructions in there that are part of Wikimedia's Terms of Use)
WP:Conflict of interest (you should disclose any close relationship with what you are writing about)
WP:Ownership of content (neither you nor your company will have special control over a page about the company. You cannot stop others from editing it)
WP:Copying text from other sources (you cannot copy your company's press releases or things like that because that would likely be a copyright violation)
WP:When your boss tells you to edit Wikipedia (an essay for what to do if a superior is asking you to edit)

(I am their neighbor, and his wife is now in a nursing home and the artwork will be given away soon.) I started on this today but within seconds or a ocuple minutes my first uploaded photo and the new text were removed by UrielAcosta - assuming because I didn't cite properly. You may not do it, period. Only the owner of the copyright can. If the copyright holder (in this case possibly the widow, depending on the artist's will) wants to add the pictures to wikicommons under a license for free use, the copyright holder may do so (but nobody else is allowed to), from the copyright holder's own account (and nobody else's). I think so, but I'm not an expert. According to the wikicommons page commons:commons:Copyright rules by subject matter#Art (copies of) the copyright holder is the artist, or the heir to the artist's copyrights, and not the person who owns the paintings. Assuming the widow is the heir, & the person placing it has her power of attorney (and registers for a Wikipedia account) it's probably okay- but before doing that I'd ask first for advice at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions or at the discussion page of the wikicommons art copyright page I've linked above.

Images from any artist notable enough to have a Wikipedia article are good to have on wikicommons, for use in Wikipedia articles & by the general public, so good luck with this. UrielAcosta (talk) 16:15, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
