ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message
[edit]Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}
to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:55, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]I notice in Special:Diff/1287737112/1289892526 that for example |author=Rukmini Callimachi
is changed to |author=Callimachi
+ |first=Rukmini
. This is confusing. If there is a "first" there should be a matching "last". I fear it will become a source of future errors made by other scripts and users. -- GreenC 14:37, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, that was a mistake on my part. i am not trying to confuse people--CitationAuditor (talk) 14:45, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
- You are doing good work. My only other comment would be to place the work/website fields prior to URLs, keeping the URL technical information at the end and the author date title work information near the start, mirroring how it displays thus logically oriented. Ordering is not required but if you are reordering anyway, it's best practice. You can see recommended (though not required) ordering at TM:Cite web, in the usage section which was based on a best practice discussion at Help_talk:Citation_Style_1. -- GreenC 18:48, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
- (oops, I see now those examples have the URL-like parameters spread throughout the template, which I don't agree with, could be open to future discussion - in reality most people do whatever they want, those examples are good for those who copy-paste an empty template) -- GreenC 18:55, 11 May 2025 (UTC)

- I wrote a quick script to switch author --> last. It checked your edits since January 1, 2025, and made changes like this Special:Diff/1289027173/1289931780. If you think I should check further back from January let me know. It edited 35 pages. Thanks. -- GreenC 19:30, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you! I'll try to be more careful now.--CitationAuditor (talk) 00:17, 12 May 2025 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to the Balkans or Eastern Europe, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template. If you have questions, please contact me or ask at the Arbitration Committee Clerks Noticeboard. Mellk (talk) 10:04, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
