Usman Shaukat
[edit]Usman Shaukat is a Pakistani entrepreneur and business executive in the pharmaceutical and industrial sectors. He is the current President of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) for the 2024–26 term and serves as the Director of Bio-Labs (Pvt.) Ltd., a prominent pharmaceutical company in Pakistan.[1][2][3] He is a member of the Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association (PPMA) and an elected member the Central Executive Committee.[4] He is also the Vice President of Islamabad Industrial Association (IAA).[5]
Early Life and Education
[edit]Born in Pakistan, Shaukat later moved to the United States to pursue higher education. He graduated with honors from the McIntire School of Commerce, undergraduate business school at The University of Virginia earning a dual degree of Bachelor of Arts in finance and international business.[6]
During his time at UVA, Usman Shaukat was an elected member of the Jefferson Literary & Debating Society, one of North America's oldest debating societies.[7]
U.S. Experience
[edit]After completing his studies, Usman Shaukat gained work experience in the United States. He participated in summer internship programs with leading global corporations such as Enron, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Salomon Smith Barney, and Citigroup, gaining practical exposure to financial markets and corporate strategy. He then secured a position at J.P. Morgan Bank in New York City, where he worked from 2000 to 2005.[8]
Pharmaceutical Industry
[edit]In 2005, Usman Shaukat returned to Pakistan and joined Bio-Labs, as a Managing Director. Bio-Labs is a healthcare company that manufactures high-end pharmaceutical products.[9][10] Under his leadership Bio-Labs achieved successful milestones.
- In 2013, Bio-Labs ranked number 12 in the fastest growing companies in the region known as ARABIA 500 by Harvard University Business School Michael Porter’s ALL WORLD NETWORK.[11]
- In 2016, Bio-Labs received an award by the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (RCCI) for the "Best Performing Pharmaceutical Entity in the Region". The award was presented in Dubai as part of RCCI Global Achievement Awards 2016.[12]
- In 2021, Bio-Labs received the “Leading Pandemic Healthcare & Pharmaceutical Company Award” in recognition of the provision of therapies during the COVID-19 pandemic at the RCCI 33rd International Achievement Awards 2021 held in Colombo, Sri Lanka in November, 2021. This award was presented by the Honorable Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa.[13]
- In 2022 Bio-Labs received the “Best Pharmaceutical Entity” award at the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s Annual Achievement Awards held in Bangkok on August 19, 2022 presented by the Thailand Deputy Prime Minister’s office.[14]
- In 2024 Bio-Labs received “Leading Pharma Export Award” at the 2024 PPMA PESA Awards.[15][16][17]
- Bio-Labs received the award for “Best Pharmaceutical Corporate - 2024” at the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry – RCCI Annual Members’ Night held at the Jinnah Convention Center, Islamabad on June 13, 2024. The award was presented by the Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Mohammad Ishaq Dar.[18]
In 2019, Usman Shaukat launched Bio-Next Pharmaceuticals, a facility specializing in producing injectables.[19] In the same year he founded Bio-Labs Consumer Health Manufacturing Facility which produces Nutritional and Health Supplements and ZH Therapeutics which manufactures personal care & hygiene products.[20][21] In 2020, he founded Bio-Labs USA Inc. in Florida which engages in trade and distribution of Pakistani pharmaceutical products in the United States of America.[22]
Leadership Roles
[edit]Usman Shaukat currently serves as President of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry RCCI (2024–26), where he has promoted key economic initiatives such as the Rawalpindi Ring Road Project and the development of industrial zones.[23][24][25] He has also held leadership roles in the Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association (PPMA), serving as Chairman of Finance and as an elected member of its Central Executive Committee (2021–2023).[26] Additionally, he is the founding member of Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) Islamabad, and has served two consecutive terms as President (2020-2022).[27]
International Engagements
[edit]In July 2022, Usman Shaukat hosted Dilawar Syed on his maiden visit to Pakistan after being appointed by the Joe Biden administration as U.S. Special Representative (S/R) for Commercial and Business Affairs.[28][29][30][31]
