Comment: Still reads like a promotional resume, and some of the sourcing is problematic. I just removed what looks like a bogus source, and there really is only one single really secondary source here. Drmies (talk) 20:27, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
Comment: Promising draft, but please fix the non-encyclopaedic writing style. Kind regards, Spinster300 (talk) 19:42, 2 April 2025 (UTC).

Harvey E. Najim is a Lebanese-American philanthropist and businessman. Following a 13-year tenure at IBM, he founded Sirius Computer Solutions (fka. Star Data Systems). Using the proceeds from a merger with Thoma Bravo in November of 2006, he founded the Najim Charitable Foundation. Both Najim's and the Foundation's contributions are primarily directed towards K-12 and post-secondary educational institutions.
Early life
[edit]Harvey E. Najim was born in 1940 to Lebanese immigrants Elias and Jamelia Najim and raised in Springfield, Illinois.[citation needed] Najim transferred schools twice, first to the University of Kansas, then to Wichita State University where he graduated with a degree in mathematics in 1964 at a GPA of 3.3.[1] Najim said he promised God in 2004 that if he ever "hit it big," he would give back to those less fortunate.[2]
Professional Work
[edit]At 24 years old, Najim enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Sam Houston. He worked as a junior officer in the Brooke Army Medical Center's data processing department. During this time, he made "invaluable contacts" with professionals including IBM representatives and technicians. Najim went on to work for IBM between the years of 1967 and 1980, culminating in a role as a systems engineering manager.[1]
Najim founded the company Star Data Systems in 1980 (renamed to Sirius Computer Solutions in 1991). The company entered partnered with Thoma Bravo in November of 2006, the proceeds of which (approx. $75 million) were used to create the Najim Charitable Foundation.[3][4] In 2015, he left his role at the company in order to devote himself to philanthropy.[5]
Philanthropy
[edit]In 2006, Najim founded the Harvey E. Najim Charitable Foundation. By 2012, the Foundation had awarded over $34 million in grants and pledges to ~146 organizations, primarily intended "for those with developmental disabilities and early childhood education.”[1] Originally known as the Harvey E. Najim Family Foundation, the term "family" was eventually dropped in favor of "charitable" in order to better describe "the nature of the foundation."[6] Nevertheless, as of 2022, over 20% of Najim’s giving remains tied to K-12 education.[3]
In 2015, Najim established a donor-advised fund under the San Antonio Area Foundation which has since provided 220 grants worth $60 million. Separately, Najim has contributed over $25 million to entities such as Haven For Hope, Morgan’s Wonderland, and the Alamo Area Rape Crisis Center.[3][2]
By 2025, the scope of his Foundation had expanded to cover post-secondary education needs, including $5 million to establish The Najim Center for Business Innovation and Career Advancement at The University of Texas at San Antonio,[3][7] $2 million for the Roadrunners’ football program,[3] and $1.25 million to combat food insecurity among students in collaboration with the San Antonio Food Bank.[8][9][10]
